Signing Time Instructor

Hi! My name is Kimberly Churchill and when my son Carter was 3 months old we learned he was profoundly deaf. Immediately I wanted to immerse myself and learn everything I could about the deaf culture and community, including learning American Sign Language (ASL). I chose to learn with Baby Signing Time, winner of 11 national parenting awards.  After Baby Signing Time I transitioned into Signing Time and TreeSchoolers to broaden communication with my son. I have since continued my ASL education locally through the Newfoundland and Labrador Association for the Deaf completing 7 courses over three years.

Carter also has cerebral palsy and is non-verbal. He starting learning Sign Language at 3 months old and by the time he was 11 months he communicated with us for the very first time by signing “milk”! Imagine the excitement our family felt when we knew we could communicate and learn about his needs, wants and ideas! Sign language was able to open up a whole new world for us which has strengthen the bond between us and our son. With the Signing Time Series, babies and children are entertained with the activities and music and quickly begin to relate the corresponding signs. They are having fun while playing, singing and learning ASL!

Carter is the reason why Lil Signing Hands was created and why I became an Independent contractor with Signing Time Academy. I want to give all families the same opportunity, experiences and pleasures I’ve had through learning ASL.

There is an empowering feeling in knowing you can communicate without speaking a word…
