Hello and thank you for inquiring about signing with your child. As the mother of two young children (a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old), I have seen the wonderful benefit of signing with children. It is a wonderful communication tool for pre-verbal infants and toddlers. Even when your child starts to speak, it’s handy to have a second language for communication because “ba” could be mean “ball,” “bath,” “bottle,” or something else. When you combine “ba” with a sign, you have a better understanding of what your child is trying to tell you.
Signing with your child has so many benefits. Research studies have shown that signing leads to an expanded vocabulary and fosters those critical early literacy skills. Signing and finger spelling can be used to help older children remember how to spell their vocabulary words.
Please contact me if you are interested in a class, private lesson, or have any other questions.
I am holding classes on Thursday mornings in Kennewick and on Thursday evenings in Pasco for parents and children ages 0-3.
